Memory
itself has acquired new meaning as the term is used to describe
a cumputer's ability to store information or to determine the
speed at which it is able to process that information. Can our
own memories be quantified in terms of bytes of information, compartmentalized
in tidy yellow folders? We often use objects or symbols or images
or sometimes monuments to represent these memories, as triggers,
as aide-mémoire. But are they not altered somewhat every
time we bring them to the surface of our thoughts, placing them
within a new context which will inevitably influence our interpretations
of the original event?
New
media / no memory is a 4-day collaborative virtual performance
presents by Center for art tapes of Halifax. MdV artists from
cities in Canada, South America ,and Europe, hybridizes the metaphors
of the body, organisms, architecture, and networks to create a
kind of cyborg monument announcing the presence of community in
cyberspace. This time working within the theme of (no) memory.
